Doddie’5 Lions Challenge 2025

In June 2025, I was proud to complete my second charity challenge in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, taking part in the Doddie’5 Lions Challenge — a demanding 555-mile cycle across Ireland. The week-long ride began in Belfast and finished in Dublin, culminating at the British & Irish Lions vs Argentina warm-up match.

I took on this challenge after only buying my first road bike in March 2025, progressing from a complete novice to riding consecutive long-distance days alongside experienced cyclists and former professional athletes. It was a powerful reminder of what structured training, consistency, and the right mindset can achieve.

On Day 5, we faced one of the toughest climbs of the week: the Military Road in Knockrath, a 2.8 km climb with an average gradient of 8.2%. Its steep gradients tested every rider’s strength and determination, but reaching the top together was a real highlight of the journey.

The final day, although the shortest of the week, proved to be the most physically demanding, as we tackled the steep climbs of the Wicklow Mountains. After a brief stop for lunch at Johnnie Fox’s Pub, we regrouped and pushed on together, rolling into Dublin tired, proud, and united by a shared purpose.

Yet again, it was a great experience, and I was so proud to do my bit for the charity. Everyone involved, including the logistics team, were amazing — we simply couldn’t have done it without them.

Across the team, we raised over £600,000 to support life-changing Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research and services for those living with the condition.

Completing two major charity challenges reflects the values I bring to my work as a personal trainer: commitment, resilience, and smart preparation.

I am a highly motivated person, which, I believe, is incredibly important as a personal trainer to give my clients that drive and energy required to reach their goals, which may once have seemed impossible to achieve.
